Prior to choosing the exact broker you are going to work with, you would have to choose a market maker (a broker-dealer company) through which your trades would be carried out. Each market maker struggles for client order flow. They post buy and sell quotes for a number of shares, and as soon as an order is received, they immediately sell from their own inventory.

Market makers, the bigger ones as well as the smaller ones, have their flashing banners lights that explain to you why you should trade through them. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages, difference in spread its one of the things you should pay attention to, and here is a few basic question you should verify with the market maker: Does the market maker have 24-hour costumer support? How large is the market maker? Where is the FOREX market maker incorporated? How much excess capital does it have? Is the FOREX market maker regulated? If so, in how many countries? Remember, it is important to find a solid with major resources company that is regulated in at least one or two major countries so incase of bankruptcy you’ll have a jurisdiction to appeal to.

Last but not least check if the firm is registered FCMs, dealing with a registered FCM has a great advantage due to the fact that the National Futures Association keeps records of all formal proceedings against FCMs, and traders can find out if the firm has had any serious problems with clients or regulators by checking the NFA's.

Finding a broker is like finding your right hand employee in the new firm you opened with your own personal money, so my advice to you, keep it in mind and do not compromise in any level, check a few firms and at least 7-8 different brokers before choosing the right one. Make sure these factors are included: Trust, Experience, Feedbacks from previous clients, Reaction speed, Amount of margin offered. Asking friends who’s active in the FOREX what broker they use and how they met, checking out some FOREX forums, chat rooms and portal like MSN can be a useful way to acquire a good FOREX broker. Finding a good FOREX broker can be a dirty job, but has the same value as trading it self. So do not be urgent to find one; pressure will not help, take you time, and hopefully you’ll find your partner for the next few years.
